My girl has had some odd reactions to her heat cycles. The first thing is how early she started, 10 months. Yes it is young but certainly not unheard of. My previous 2 girls were 14 months. At each cycle she went through what is usually considered false pregnancies, mammary development and a bit of milk production. This lasted 3 or 4 months after heat cycle ended. Last September, her third cycle, it wasn't so pronounced. That cycle lasted 20 days. She's just finished her fourth cycle today, 15 days in duration, no signs of false pregnancy. With her odd hormone history, will this have any effect on future fertility? The plan now is to breed her next cycle which will be terribly inconvenient because of fall hunting. Is there any way to postpone her cycle to prevent the inconvenience? If so, would this have any effect on fertility?

I'm not real keen on breeding in the first place and this would be a one time thing. I wouldn't do it at all were it not be for all the guys wanting pups ever since I brought her home at 8 weeks. I guess they like her pedigree..... and her coat. She looks like her daddy (Stonyridge Otis) in the head but her coat is flatter.

Any breeding advice you can offer is appreciated. I know all the health clearances BS.

My girl started at 10 months right during her NA testing. I am not a breeder so I am no help to your detailed questions. However, I am reading between the lines on some of your comments and would like to say respectfully... it sounds like your breeding for someone else's benefit...I wouldn't breed her unless your fully committed and the stars are aligning! Plenty of options out there for those guys wanting pups and they have a leg up knowing where your pup came from...

I think all good breeders do it for someone else's benefit. And yes, I'm trying to make all the stars align. I been putting plenty of effort into finding the right stud. not just any one. I have dogs from Wisconsin to Idaho on the possible list. The biggest problem will be her timing and the weather at that time. May have to rely on AI if I can't drive or come up with something else. If if doesn't feel it's right, I won't do it. Not against pulling the plug on the whole idea. One big obstacle is finding a great stud that's an outcross or as near to it as I can get. Her pedigree is pretty tight and I think it's worth exploring the idea.
