N Tx quail

Postby Bigearl » Sun Jan 12, 2020 5:42 pm

Hunted the last two days in Henrietta Tx. Found one covey both days and it was possibly the same one. The locals told me they were scarce but damn this is awful! We’re trying to salvage the trip with some waterfowl.

And that is why you run a versatile dog. Way to recognize when it’s time to call the Audible Earl!

Thanks JD. she’d look a whole lot better with a limit of quail on the strap. Let us know what you find in Ks. I’m interested to see if their population has plummeted there as well.
Willie, we got about 30-40 gaddies on a tank we plant to hunt in the morning. I just hope they don’t all come in one big flock.

Well we didn’t make it out for ducks this morning. Put five miles on a pair of boots this afternoon with zero quail seen. My pup is almost 10 months old. Despite not finding a damn thing all day she kept a good pace with an active search the whole time. She earned a gold star today for simply staying after it in spite of the lack of birds.
Will be back duck hunting in the am. Tank had about 60 birds mixed of ringers and gadies this afternoon. Hoping to put a few of them feet up in decoys tomorrow.

Earl, I’ve been following along. Hope you you get into the ducks in the morning. How long are you going to be in Texas?

Good luck in Texas. It is a big place with a lot to experience. You are 4 1/2 hours from me. My work schedule has me occupied until Sunday and that is a shame. I was mulling over the possibilities of a meeting somewhere and putting cricket on the ground with you and your pup....
Good hunting to you and your pup here in Texas.

Ha the dog looks miserable in that photo. She hates the tailgate photo.
