Lost the once in a lifetime dog yesterday.

My best dog I had lasted till 14 , but hunted up to 12.
When I put him down , not a tear was shed , cause he had spent all of his hunt out.

I lost my exceptional 5 year old hunting buddy this year as well. Like others said, a pup is the strong medicine, but not a cure. Just keep your expectations down and remember they’re all different.

Sorry for your loss. I am counting down the days now, my PP has cancer in his lungs, he is 12 now and his time is short.
But he is a fighter and I remember when he was young and ran like a beast.....you will have more than one great dog....

Sorry to hear this. Sounds like we all get a once in a lifetime dog. 5 is too young. Gotta be tough. Wish I had something better to say.
