The dog did a 4 duck search which is verified by the video posted which shows the dog coming out of cover on the far bank of the area it was sent to search.

Note:

I went back and took out trim edits on the video my Wife took. It is now 6 minutes long. Tess had already been searching closer cover along the shore she was sent from for several minutes before expanding towards the standing timber and then to the far shore (which is where the Wife started the video at). The Wife got lost as to where Tess was vs where the camera was pointed for awhile. Tess was searching flooded vegetation to the right of where the camera was being pointed which is why I trimmed it out originally.

Should answer any questions as to how the dog searched and you can click the link in my post just above.

She did all a dog can be asked to do relative to search, use of nose, intelligent expansion of search, finding a live duck, catching and retrieving it ...

After retrieving the live duck all the way back to the bank in front of me, she failed to hang on to it and immediately emerge from the water as she should have done.

After relaxing her grip on the duck a very short frantic chase to recapture the duck resulted (one second and 5 yards approx) followed by a couple of strong Come commands, she then came out and delivered the duck to hand.

Judges did not request the dog to be resent.

Judges reflected that momentary loss of the duck at the end of the long retrieve and need for two commands to get her out of the water against her Duck Search score and several other areas as well.

Those are facts.

AG, that's a great run and she's so young. I'd be proud as heck to have a run like that and mine's 4yrs old. A couple training reps on that retrieve issue and that's a P1 when you combine that kind of search with that really nice field work you've shown her do. You're sure going to have a lot of fun hunting her. Are you going to run her again next year? Do you run in any VHDF tests? How many finds/shot birds did she have in the field?

Thank You.

I seriously doubt I will run Tess in UT again.

She had 5 finds in the field.

VHDF interests me but there are no tests anywhere close to me.

Congrats AG and Tess. I like Tess and have enjoyed following you bring her along. With your photography skills, I am looking forward to some pictures of brace work from Tess and Spud.

Thank You Gentlemen.

Made a quick run to the Prairie this past week to get Tess some Rattlesnake and Porcupine avoidance training. She is still in heat so Spud stayed home and got a needed break from her.

Yesterday morning was beautiful and Tess laid down a nice run. 3 mature Prairie Chickens and one big rooster pheasant. Biologist said they lost most of their hatch due to a lack of moisture and extreme heat of the drought.

Ran Tess in a Retriever Test today. Youngest dog in the test to pass, the only non-retriever breed. We enjoyed it.

A long summer of training and testing is over. Doves and Teal open next week. Good Lord willing Spud, Tess and I will be in the field.
