I have no experience what so ever with the AKC trials, walking or horseback. I have run NSTRA for a number of years and know the AKC trials are nothing like NSTRA. I have a 1 year old Brittany that I am considering running in an AKC event in Nebraska in September. She will still be young enough to run in the Puppy division and I'd also run her in the Derby. Can some of you give me some advice on exactly how these are run? I know for the Puppy they do not put out birds. What can I do to prepare my dog for these events? I'll have to run the Walking as I do not have a horse to do the Horseback. Thanks.

It is not very difficult. Just bring your dog in shape, water, and take a good attitude. The marshalls will keep you on course and you can also ask any regulars tips for the course while you are there. These are not broke dog stakes obviously the judges will be looking for ground work, nice run and desire to hunt.
