Hello, new member and Gwp/pp

Postby Jlep1979 » Mon Dec 31, 2018 12:59 am

Hello, I’ve been reading this forum for a while and appreciate all the information. I’ve always has GSP’s, until my last one passed at 3 with a tumor on his kidney.

I recently adopted Gita from a family who was having trouble with her escaping their yard and chasing then neighbors horses. Previous family never hunted over Gita, but occasionally ran her in the hills off leash. Gita is 1 year old, and reported to be a PP/GWP mix of some sort. Her house manners have been excellent, she’s a total sweetheart, and today I took her into the woods for about an hour. I was pretty amazed, she quartered nicely, into the wind, and seemed to instinctively work from cover to cover, with very-very little handling! We didn’t find any birds today, but I think she’ll do well!

Welcome to the forum!

I bet that pup will hunt just fine. Looks good too! Good luck, and I'd love to hear how you're getting along with her.

Welcome. Nice looking pup. Hope she exceeds your expectations.
I've had several really good dogs, but none were perfect. Neither am I, so keep that in mind!

Great looking dog. The more birds you put in front of her, the better she’ll be.

Looks like she's got a nice cozy spot next to the fire. Best of luck with her, keep us posted.

Although we currently own DD's, I was a member of the GWP club for many years and some of the most impressive hunting dogs in the local club were rescue dogs. That isn't putting down the other club dogs, they were wonderful. It's just giving credit to the GWP rescue group for placing hunting dogs in hunting home. Good luck with your pup! Sounds like she is capable of being everything you want as a hunting dog - if you put the time in.

Hi Deb: I was worried you may have evaporated. Nice to see you’re still in the game.

Hi Harvey - I'm still around. I just kind of backed away from the dog boards and clubs for the last few years. I don't think I've been on this site since Mark posted a pic of our new pup 4 years ago...Otto's not much of a puppy anymore. Hope you're doing well!

Good looking dog. Aside from the solid liver coloring (which GWPs do come in), her head and furnishings look more typical of a GWP than a pudelpointer to me.

KJ: Same here. I never would have guessed the PP connection based on visual appearance. GWP mug for sure.

orhunter,
For his sake, hopefully it hunts like a GWP, too
