Sharpshooter dogs

Postby oldtimer » Thu Nov 08, 2018 1:18 pm

Just curious if anyone has hunted over these dogs? I have a DD and PP. My DD is the best dog I have owned in 35 years of bird hunting. Her breeder has retired, and I will be hunting more southerly areas in the future. However, I love waterfowl hunting. Do these dogs have the duck search and retrieve gene that the DDs do?

Yes I have friends in Iowa who use theirs for tough conditions waterfowling all through the season in Iowa. And a multitude of upland birds as well. If I went down the gsp road it would be that one.

I have seen several of them work as well as a litter of puppies. Really good drive and a beautiful, intense point. Haven't hunted ducks over them but I've seen them do a very good duck search and retrieve.

The other one I'd look at is Sundance.

Many of his dogs seem to have a heavier conformation and plenty of natural retrieve.

My Iowa Buddy shared a video of his Sharpshooter Dog bringing in a duck he shot this morning out of ice slush in 5 degree air temps after a 5 minute search in the ice water.
