Amazing sequence

Postby Deacon » Fri Jan 12, 2018 10:43 am

This past Sunday I was fortunate enough to hunt with a vet from Cornell University. Half of the time he spent with his camera instead of a gun. At the end of the hunt I was the only person left without a limit of redheads. As a flock approached, and I fired, he took the following picture... Look closely at the center of the flock.

When my dog made the retrieve we found the bird was carrying jewelry! This was my first ever banded diver. He flew to NY from Manitoba.

Very cool action shot and congrats on the band. Are you guys sitting on the bank? I'm not great with my ducks, what are the other ones in that group with the white stripe on the head? BWT?

Yes, whenever possible we either hunt from the shore, or park the boat against the shore as it provides natural cover.

The birds with the "white stripe" actually just hen redheads. While we raise a fair number of bluewings here in NY, 99% of them get out of here before any of our duck seasons begin. I have only shot a handful of them in my life, almost always early in October.
