Rotating Dog Food?

Postby mtlhdr » Thu Jan 04, 2018 12:49 pm

My 5.5 year old GSP has been on the same feed for a couple years now. I'll add eggs, yogurt, bacon fat, or raw chicken wings/drumsticks fairly regularly. Was just wondering if there are any benefits to periodically changing his kibble. He seems to do well on what we're feeding him, just curious.

No point to it IMO. Got a 10 year old right now who has eaten the same food his whole life - still digs into his chow and finishes the daily meal in 5 min. and fit as a fiddle.

The benefit to rotating and feeding the extra stuff is that if for some reason you have to change foods suddenly, the dogs are used to getting different stuff and don't have digestive issues. We change food all the time buying whatever quality food is on sale and mix in leftovers.

Ottos chow changes seasonally. During hunting season we both switch from our regular diet to gas station sausage breakfast sandwiches, chicken nuggets and whatever burgers are on the dollar menu.

I switch foods every bag. I feed 2 different high quality foods and 6 different formulas. If I Don't my Draht won't eat well. She gets bored.

Oh she sure does Doc!! I know what she is doing, but I can sympathize with her, I would hate eating the same thing every day. Variety is the spice of life. I spoil my dogs, but they deserve it.
