Broken outside toe

Postby JONOV » Mon Jul 17, 2017 12:17 pm

I think my dog broke an outside front toe. It seems to hurt when we poke at it. He has been favoring one foot for a few days, but not so bad that he was lame or anything, hardly Noticeable until he had a lot of activity then it seemed much more tender. Is there anything that should be done other than having the dog take it easy?

I've had a dog with the same injury. The vet said that since it's not weight bearing, we should just rest it and give pain meds. If it were a severe break, it might need to be splinted or put in a cast.

Thought I'd update, a few weeks later. It wasn't a toe. It was his "wrist" ( or ankle?) Vet thought it was broken, but nope, somehow the chucklehead managed to sprain an ankle.

Two weeks of very low activity and by the end I thought I was going as nuts as he was for lack of exercise, seems to be ok now.
