Skin abrasion

Postby Deuce » Tue Nov 22, 2016 6:45 am

For the vets in the group any thoughts on what this is? It's about the size of a nickel.

It's on my wirehairs right hind quarter, almost to the tip of the bone before her stomach. I noticed it last night as she laid down on her bed. I've been gone all weekend deer hunting. Last time she hunted was Thursday, I don't remember any run-ins with anything. Advice or input is much appreciated.

Vegas got something similar 2 weeks ago after a run-in with a coon. I think she rubbed it on a stick because it's on top of her head.

My treatment has been benign neglect (nothing). It got less red and swollen each day, now it's just a dry bald spot. If at any time it bothers her or doesn't seem to be healing I will probably put a steroid/antibiotic cream on it. Until it appears to need treatment I'm leaving it alone.

Glad I'm not the only one that sees this...I was thinking he got it from playing with other dogs, but now I think he gets it from nails when he goes and hides under our low deck. He got another one from some barbed wire and that looked bad for a few days but by the time I found it it was scabbing up fine. Fiance put neosporin on it because shes a worrier.

There was wire on the Thursday hunt, I suppose she could have nicked it. Will keep updated if it develops into something else.

Over and over I heal up skin abrasions on myself and my dogs with Neosporin ointment.
