Back on the Prairie!

Postby greg moyer » Sun Sep 25, 2016 2:15 pm

Me and the dog made it back to the prairie. Had a couple days to hunt till the rains hit but all is back to normal.
Lots of young birds around. The roosters aren't colored up yet and Huns are few and far between. Sharpy's are keeping us busy.

It's been a great start for this years season. Even through bird #s are down do to heavy hail storms there are still enough around to keep us busy!! Weather has been all over the place. Opening day brought 2" of snow than 75 on Sunday. Sharptails are getting smarter and bunching up. Pheasants are in the tallest CRP.

Well after finishing up in Montana and ND we headed back to Oregon to chase chukars only to find everything covered in a couple feet of snow. Made it to within 80 miles of home than decided to head south instead. First time in southern Arizona for me and with no intel time to put some leather on the ground. First day hunting weather was great high of 59 and partly sunny. Picked a spot off the pavement and unleashed the beast. She did a little over 22 miles and 9 coveys!! My shooting is a little rusty but did manage a few.
Beautiful country and tons of public ground. The one drawback is everything has spikes growing on it. Going to try for all three species before heading back home. 18 days left in the season.
