First duck hunt

Postby fridgwayID » Mon Nov 30, 2015 7:19 pm

I finally remembered to bring a camera for her first duck hunt. She did amazing. The morning was cold (about 18 degrees, but that didn't stop her from going in hard after the birds. On one retrieve, she probably ended up swimming about 250-300 yards in fast moving water (dont worry, we kept the canoe on stand-by in case a rescue was needed). We finished the day off with a quick field hunt and she absolutely killed it. She only required a little bit of holding on to when the birds started to pile in and she wasnt quite on point bringing the birds all the way back to us, but more work in the yard will probably help with that.

Thats exactly what she is. For having that tight, slick coat, the cold doesnt seem to bother her too much. I keep her calorie intake pretty high, vest her, and let her run around for a few minutes after she goes for a swim, and that seems to keep her happy. I can't get her to swim for a dummy, but she will charge in for dead ducks. After having her out a few times now, I honestly think she would go till she died. She just never wants to quit.
