PetSmart to buy Chewy

Postby Doc E » Tue Apr 18, 2017 8:19 pm

I'm thinking that this can't be good for us (the consumers).

Hopefully this is true:

"Upon closing, Chewy will continue to be led by CEO Ryan Cohen and operate largely as an independent subsidiary of PetSmart, focusing on its current business strategy..."

Well ain't that just great. First, Walmart buys jet. Com , dollar shave club gets sold and now chewy sales out. Can't blame any of them, it's all about the money. But i like spending my money with the little guy who gives great service. Next!

Don't like seeing this. Chewy.com had some of the best service I have ever experienced with an online retailer.

Hopefully the buyout doesn't change things, but I am skeptical.

Several popular foods have dropped them because they don't want their food on petsmart shelves.

Yep already got an email from Chewy saying they will no longer have Fromm. Fromm is now selling it directly with free shipping so i'll do that.

Got a letter (pamphlet) from chewy stating that previous Fromm customers can get 50% off their next 3 orders. Pretty aggressive move to try to keep people from leaving.

I don't know, the whole thing just seems like a big temper tantrum to me. If the whole argument is that independent retailers provide better service, they should never have been selling online as a website is never going to be able to provide the same level of services as a brick and mortar store.

Their service hasn't changed. They accidentally send the puppy version of the food I use, and one 30 second call they had the right one on the way no problem. Until something changes, I'll keep using them.
