Ignorance can be fixed but stupid is forever.
Law of Logical Argument - Anything is possible IF you don't know what you are talking about.

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Jim Beam in one hand, Airedale in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Any of those dogs related to yours? Good reading there, makes me wonder what could have happened if my husband bbt had known he was wanting an Airedale when he told me to look into "the bearded dogs that hunt everything "

Well,
Here is the thing.

One can train any kind of dog to find a bird or a rabbit and flush it out. There are breeds which are extremely intelligent and have good nose. The German Shepard is the perfect example.
But this does not mean that those non-hunting breed can outcompete any other hunting breed. I am sure an average GWP will do better than these dogs. And on top of this you at least enjoy your dog's pointing.

That is a fact Highlander. Like you pointed out in other posts, most dogs, even hunting breeds, don't really compare to specialists like EP's and labs.....but other breeds can still do a good job. Airedales do a "good" job of upland and retrieving and they are very good at fur.

The only two I have hunted with, would retrieve and hunt for dead birds, and seek out and flush quail when they were around. They excelled on fur. My first exposure with a "Vdog" was an Airedale as a kid. I appreciate them for their looks and personality as well.
