I like when the registered name and the call name are tied together. For example (if your last name is Smith): Smith's Old Number Seven - call name "Jack", Smith's Duchess of York- call name "Fergie", Smith's Tricky Dick - call name "Nixon", etc.

Just don't go with a gun/hunting equipment manufacturer. Everytime I hear of a Remi, Ruger, Nelli, Beretta (shortened to Bretta) I throw up a bit. I feel the same way about Avery, Deke, Drake.

I agree the 'gun' abbreviated names are overused. This is our first bird dog, we debated his name for months.

We finally agreed to Cypress for our boy. Love the name, get lots of compliments-it's unique. Another one I love is Summit (that will be our next dog)

+1 for Cash. I had a Cash and he was a great dog.

Current lass is call name Dottie... which is often just Dot when we be just conversing. Permutations exist in conversations with others about her, "Naughty Dottie" isn't unheard, but so also, 'Dottie Llama'.

Think my next bitch will be call named, Bambi. I do prefer the harder consonants with the eye or eee ending. The Bam in Bambi is actually a little softer than ideal... but, 'Bambi, Seek' just gives me a grin.

Just named my new Brittany pup Bree. I started with Brie, like the French cheese but I decided on "Janee's August Breeze" for her registered name so went with the Bree spelling. It's a short solid one syllable name that doesn't sound like any training commands.

My male Brittany is called Tucker. My female English Setter is called Tilly and if I ever get another male it will be called Woody.

After all that time and thought, we settled on the name the breeder gave him and really love it. Ha
