Big brother says nice work!

Looks like your pup is coming along just fine. Doesn't really surprise me to see that, I've never seen a dog with as much NA as mine, and I can't imagine that yours is all that different.

I guess you've laid to rest the theory, 5 months is too young to hunt. Let them eat cake....

Nice going.

Very nice Willie T. Lots of good times ahead from the looks of things. Where's your pup out of?

"and who's theory is that?"

Work some spring NAVHDA training days and ask pup owners prepping for the NAT. So,.... tell me what this pups experience is, how much hunting has he done? Ya gotta know this so you know how to read/evaluate the pup and owner. "Oh, I didn't hunt him last season because he was too young." This "pup" is 12/13/14 months old!!!......maybe older.

Mtlhdr, he is a Cedarwoods pup. Pretty natural little guy. Lots of bird sense. My first go with a versatile.

Very Nice bunch of photos and good work with your pup.
I hunting my 2 DD's starting them at 4.5 months old on geese, cranes and grouse. I like working young dogs. Not sure how young is to young but I have not found that age yet.

As someone new to the Versatile dog world, there seems to be two camps; those that say expose them to as many hunting situations as you can as soon as the pup has been conditioned to gunfire, and those that don't want to take the dog hunting til it is what would be considered "finished."

And at chapter meetings, I've noticed more than a few that haven't hunted before at all, that might not own guns.

JONOV, this is my first go with a versatile breed but not hunting dogs. I'm in the sooner a pup figures out its a bird dog the better camp. Some really good habits can be imprinted while a pup is developing. I think if done right, the end result is a bolder, more adaptable and cooperative dog. Fully awakening that inner beast before any advanced training also gives you a powerful motivator to draw upon as training advances.

Very nice dog, I like his pedigree too. BTW I don't think he needs that bathing suit, unless it is for modesty purposes. I have a 9 week one running around out side here in Alberta and it was -27 C yesterday. His feet were cold but other than that he didn't seem to mind, neither did his mother.
