Biochemical details?? Correct is correct, no matter how you look at it.
One is made from a flower, and one is totally synthetic!!
And, why would anyone NOT mix/use/dilute, as directed?
What a cop out... You mis-spoke with information that has no factual basis whatsoever,...(more than once),
Advantix II has pyrethrin in it - it will be your best bet as far as safety goes.

It does not.
Pyrethrins as a class are highly toxic at high doses

Very misleading... Define "high doses". This quote comes directly from the National Pesticide Information Center
"• Pyrethrins are one of the least poisonous insecticides to mammals (2)."

They are the same class of drug and very similar.

No, they're not. Permethrin falls under the class of pyrethroids. A totally synthetic, man made chemical. About the only thing they have in common is how they kill bugs.
This is the advantage of choosing a widely used product that has been around for a while over the hundreds of other products available.

Around for a while? Pyrethrin use has been traced back to as early as the Chinese Chou dynasty!
That's 2000 years ago!!! I consider that having "been around a while"

Toxicity is more than how "toxic" a chemical is

I don't even know what to say here...

Try researching something before you try to discredit someone else's research.
The "I'm a vet" thing will only take you so far with so many people.

And, if you would have bothered to read the whole thread, you would have read that I already use Advantix II, and it ain't cutting it alone! Ticks are bad!

So I wrote pyrethrin instead of pyrethroid - shoot me.

Lots of things have been around for 2,000 years, doesn't mean they are better/safer/easier,

Like I said, if you want to dip your dog every 7 days, have at it. Just make sure you report back and let us know how much better it's working for you.

Five days on NexGard and I have not found any ticks on the dogs. For 2 of those days, I ran them in the woods. I'm not sold yet, but so far it is looking promising.

It has been 2 weeks with the Nexgard and I have found no ticks on the dogs. I have removed 5 deer ticks attached to me and picked off another 11. The ticks must die pretty quick once they bite the dogs.

Chad, what's your location? How bad are the ticks in your area?
I guess if you've only had 11 on you in two weeks they're either not "horrible", or you haven't been out in the woods that much?? Honestly, I could walk in the little strip of timber behind my house and flick off 11 in as many minutes!!

Since I've started "supplementing" the Advantix II with the pyrethrin I haven't found any on the dogs' bodies, (which is still a major improvement), but I still find them around the head and face. Of course, I'm not really treating that area for obvious reasons. It has helped immensely.

Thanks for the report on the Nexguard. We aren't carrying it at my clinic until we find out efficacy against ticks. I have a trial sample for my own pup, but the only sample sizes I could get were for dogs over 60 pounds, and my pup isn't that big yet.

I'm in eastern minnesota. I have not seen any dog ticks yet. Only deer ticks. The ticks are not bad, but with some warmth they will be getting worse. I have purposely been running the dogs in the woods and brush to test the Nexgard. I have stayed on the trails to avoid the ticks. I live in the country and the dogs typically get ticks just from being in the backyard. I will report again in another week.

The ticks have been on a steady rise with the warmer weather and I still have not found any on the dogs, so the the Nexgard appears to be working well.

Well, it's that time of year again and I'm wondering if everyone is still happy with Nexgard?

I used a seresto collar last year and liked it. This year we got on the bravecto train. If that doesn't work I'll pick up another seresto collar.

I'm a Nexgard/Bravecto fan!! Just pick if you prefer 1 month or 3 month protection. I use Nexgard, if I don't give it 1st of the month I'd forget completely.

Are we talking about the oral dose of Nexgard? My wife just went by the Vet and thats what they sold her. I looked it up online and saw a lot of negative reviews. Lots of bad side effects. Has anyone experienced that? Before I give to my PP I need some positive other than it kills the little bastards ( Ticks ). MISSKIWI67?? Care to chirp in? Anyone?
