Birds to expect in test

Postby Bruce Schwartz » Sat Feb 10, 2007 7:48 pm

Wondering whether to expect live flyers or all dead birds in the typical HRC test? What about different or same species for land and water work (duck, pheasant, chukar, quail)?

Bruce, you'll probably find the type of birds used listed on the premium/entry form, but in my area it's all dead ducks in the standard tests and live chukar for upland tests (which are seperate events). Have it in my head the rules allow shot flyers at the Finished level, but have never seen them used in a regular HRC retrieving (as opposed to upland) event. And in any event, it's something the individual event's contact person should be able to verify.

Bruce,
All Dead ducks & wingers are used, for All tests, excluding Grand.
Think the Grand has an upland test for flushers, not sure of it truthfully.
They are fun tests, have some coming up the Spring.
Best of luck to you & your pup in it. Be nice to have a Griff title.
If dog can handle & is steady, you'll do fine.
