Dang. Missed it. Was lamenting earlier the good old days (for me anyways) of Garth Brooks. Have to say the current crop female country artists is by far the best of the last three decades or so.

GARTH BROOKS.....!???

Dat ain't Country....

How 'bout some Hank, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Patsy, even some Lefty Frizzell.......sheeeesh

Trains, prison, Momma, sunday supper, your horse dying, that's the stuff of country songs and singers.....

I agree Steve. There are clearly blurred lines between today’s country music and everything else. I’ve got soft spot for the classics.

Ha. Thought that might ruffle the feathers of the v-dog old timers  Actually have to agree that much of today's "country" music is unlistenable. What can I tell ya, those folks you listed we're topping the charts before I was born (well, at least in diapers). I've really been enjoying my Jamey Johnson radio station on Pandora. He's definitely a throwback.

I was raised listening to George Jones, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty and the list goes on. I prefer country music a bit more on the twangy sad side!

Don't get me wrong, I'm am down with the Possum; no denying his greatness. Willie, David Allen Coe, Merle, Waylon, Hank Jr...those guys are great, there's just no way you're finding them on the radio (at least around here).

For me it's more like pour two fingers of the good stuff, turn the lights down, and get to feeling low (in the cathartic sense)...

I’d hate leave out Alabama, John Anderson, Willie, Hank, and Kenny. Why not Dolly and Reba too.

You guys ever heard of Vern Gosdin? If you're feeling really low down, he's always good for a tear jerker or two.

Yeah, but that's the point where COUNTRY really started to turn....
to go POP,
to lose it's TWANG,
although I likes me some John Anderson-

aaaand we were SWINGIN......

He was a good story teller too. Reminded me of Jerry Clower with a fiddle.
