New collar time which one??

Postby birdawgs » Sun Feb 21, 2016 5:36 pm

As the subject states it is new collar time for me the Tri Tronics G2 EXP beeper setup is giving my fits ( never did like the beeper, size, etc )
I am an avid grouse and woodcock hunter and the occasional waterfowl hunter ( how times have changed ). The current dogs in my stable are a Pointer and Pudelpointer, in the past I have not hunted these two together as my Pointer can be a handful and she takes all my attention ( that is changing due to her aging ) I had put them on the ground together last hunt of 2015 and they complimented each other nicely.

1. I think I would like the multiple collar off one transmitter like the G 2
2. I was using the beeper more as a locator than a beeper on the Pointer, I would be satisfied running just a bell and not a beeper if a collar had just a locate feature that could be heard from a good distance.
3. Mile range, not that my dogs range that far for the most part but because of the terrain.
4. Durability is a must.
5. Wide range of stimulation settings ( the G2 was always too hot for general training with my Pointer ) and I don't know what my next dog may be like.

Please help narrow it down

With beeper, go with Dogtra 2502 T&B.
Without beeper, I would recommend the Dogtra Edge, or Edge RT. Everything you want and more.

Been happy with my Garmin Pro 550. It has several features that some might not use but still a good unit for the money (expandable to three dogs, continuous stim, momentary stim, tone, vibrate, beacon light, beeper control, and bark collar).

I use two of the newer style beepers that I kept after selling my Pro 500. My Pro 550 is only a year old but the beepers are going on 3yrs without changing the battery. The beepers are capable of several different modes as well. You can mute the beeper from the transmitter or perform a locate. I run mine in point only mode and use the locate only if necessary. I like the fact I can remove the beepers from the collars when only training and that the beepers ride on top of the neck and behind the ear when hunting. Those are two features that the Dogtra beeper unit doesn't offer.

IMO, TT has gone downhill since the Garmin 'takeover'.
I recently got two Dogtra Edge RT ---- They are superb.

I can't disagree on that.

Question on the dogtra....don't you have to send the entire unit in to add a collar or to replace a lost collar ?
I know the TT are expandable and I've bought collars off the shelf and added them to the transmitter.
Not sure what Dogtra does ?

You can marry a new collar to any Dogtra transmitter. The Dogtra Edge can handle 4 collars. Easy procedure, just follow the instructions. No need to send anything in.

What is different since the Garmin takeover?? I've got a 550 and an Alpha and been very happy with both. The one time I needed customer service support for the Alpha they bent over backwards for me despite having purchased the Alpha as a used system.
