Cricket standing his birds at 40 yards
Delivering at heel, left handed.
Hunted some big country today.
My son is still on Christmas break from college so I am getting to spend some quality time with him and the Pudelpointer. Today we hunted wild quail in west Texas. It was a brisk 7 degrees when we got out of the truck this morning but it has warmed up to 16 now. Quail numbers are not what they were last year, but the young dog is putting in some nice work, and managed to pin 8 coveys in an area that gets heavy hunting pressure. Several of them from 30-40 yards. Cricket is almost a year and a half now. He is still pretty green, but he is showing me a keen nose and really putting together how to work wild birds. The best work of the day was a covey that kept running out from under his point, causing him to relocate 3 times. He kept contact on a cross wind and eventually pinned them at 35 yards. Atta boy! All in all a heck of a good time.
