Any local Oregon guys with an early season report?

Postby ForestDump » Fri Sep 22, 2017 10:52 am

Bird numbers on the west side have been decent if not a little down from last year. Mountain Quail numbers are up from what I’ve seen and I’ve managed to get into a lot more blue grouse than ruffed so far. Have only seen 3 ruffed grouse so far. From what I hear the chukar numbers are down big out east hopefully they come out of hiding next month.

Chukar numbers in Western Idaho are down quite a bit. I'm sure it's the same in North-Central to North-eastern Oregon. I grew up in Oregon and lived there until a few months ago. The winter we had could not have been good on the chukar, as I was hearing reports of lots of winter killed chukar in December and January last year. Grouse in Idaho seem to be in decent numbers but not nearly as good as I was used to in Oregon.
