How do DD's typically hunt rabbit?

Postby TruAblePup » Thu Aug 03, 2017 4:11 pm

Hi all,

I know the german testing system favours rabbit hunting/tracking more than NAVHDA does, and it plays a big part in the VJP.

Now, how do DD's typically hunt rabbits? Do they point and flush like they do with game birds? Or do they chase more like a beagle?

Thanks for your help!

I'm sure some "experts" might contradict but Germans don't run their dogs on hare like beagles.

A well trained German dog might point or accidentally flush a hare, but it will HALT until after the shot and then be sent on a retrieve. The VJP hare track is for tracking cripples, because a large hare or fox doesn't always drop with a load of bird shot.
