Good Times!

Postby Willie T » Sat Jan 13, 2018 9:24 pm

Well, this is the last weekend before my son goes back to college for the spring semester. The two of us and Cricket have been having a ball. Cricket likes hunting with Tyler. He rarely misses and always shares his lunch! Today we hunted woodcock in the piney woods. I really enjoy hunting them in the winter woods. They put a premium on fast shotgun handling, and test a dogs steadiness while you locate the pointed dog.
I took a few cell phone pics today and have no skill with a camera.
This was the first bird of the day. We were in pretty heavy cover which made for pretty sporty shooting.

Cricket with most of the hair rubbed off his nose from busting the thickets, admiring his work on the tailgate

Good times indeed.

Jealous as can be here! Woodcock for us are an October bird. There was a time I hunted them almost everyday of the season. Great little birds and challenging to hit in thick cover.

Great job!

That is awesome. Those are some funny looking little birds. How many of them can your son eat in a sitting. I am thinking all of them.

Yeah, he could eat all of them, and then probably pound down a 6 bird limit of ducks on top of that.
