We Lost Rocky Today

Postby Dakotazeb » Tue Sep 02, 2008 2:49 pm

I just returned from the vet clinic after having to put down Rocky, my buddy, friend and hunting companion for the the past 13 years. To find another dog that was as good a hunter and family member will be difficult. Fortunately I have another Brittany, 5 year old Mattie, at home to help.

Rocky had been having various health issues since April. Mainly AHIA about which I posted eslewhere on this site. While current test appeared negative the vet is certain Rocky was now suffering from cancer of the throat or stomach. He hadn't been eating and was just wasting away.

No more suffering, no more pain. Only a lot of tears from the wife and I. Rocky, you will be dearly missed.

Dear, i had a rocky too- a dk- he died with 12, i can not forget him.
i am with you!
This is for you, my dear, and for all, that mourn their dog:

Walk With An Old Dog

Because you will not be forever,
Hope against time though I may,
Paint your picture in my memory,
Eyes blue with age, muzzle gone grey.

Because you walked with me in Springtime,
Puppy-clumsy, running free.
As you grew, we grew together--
You became a part of me.

Because I shared with you my sorrows,
Not understanding-- simply there.
Often spurring me to laughter--
My friend, you know how much I care.

Because the years have slowed your fleetness,
Though your spirit still is strong.
I promise I will take more time now,
So that you can go along.

Because you do not fear the future,
Living only in the now,
I draw strength from your example--
Yet time keeps slipping by somehow.

Because the day will soon be coming
When I will no longer see
You rise to greet me - but in memory
You will always walk with me.

Greeting madonna

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Not much else I can say, but I know that Rocky had a great life while he was here!

Yes he will be missed, but he was loved and he will live in your heart forever. You were blessed the day you got him and every day after it is that way with good dogs. I am so sorry to hear of your loss and yes he is not in pain any more.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I had a special bond with Rocky and it's going to take some time to get over this. Never been this tough with other dogs I've had.

Here's another neat site that also fits. Hope you will all enjoy.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I have a 10 year old GSP named Rocky too and he is my heart. I have never bonded with another dog like I have with him. I get teary eyed just thinking about losing him. I hope it is getting easier for you and your family.

I still get a tear in my eye on occasion when talking about Rocky. I miss him in the field this fall and still vividly remember the last pheasant he retrieved last year. I have a 5 year old female Brittany yet at home so she has made the loss a little easier. It took her a few weeks to adjust too. Below is a picture of Rocky in his prime.

Glad it it is getting easier for you. I put a 16 year old down last October and when hunting season rolled around this year it was hard.
