Our new pup, which is a Boykin is really alot of fun. She really doing well with retreiving and basic commands. She's a little more stubborn than my Springers. She gets a little side tracked. Great in the house and loves all family members. Looks like we have a real teammate.

Sounds like things are going well. Don't worry about the pup getting side tracked, she will grow out of it in time. Have lots of fun while she's young, they don't stay that way long.

Last week our pup retrieved a Box Turtle for us. I working the grill for my daughter's 21st and out of the woods came our Madison with her prize. At first the kids thought it was a nerf ball. Real funny! She an interesting dog. Finds all kinds of stuff. I wish she bring me a stack of Ben Franklins.

My old Boykin used to like to carry box turtles around all day and chew on them. One day he starts yelping like crazy. I look to see what the heck is going on and here is a box turtle hanging from his tounge and refusing to let go. I laughed so hard I almost cried. It finally lets go and what does he do? well Picks it back up and carries it around, Dumb dog. :D

They may get that tendency from these

which are believed to figure into Boykin origins--and which also happen to emulate turtles instead of hares with their methodical pace afoot. Slow and steady may not win a race but it wins every time
