There is a breeder not far from me so i have seen a couple of them run hunt tests. They ran nicely, did a fine job finding birds. And yes they are beautiful dogs - until they come out of the field with a couple of pounds of burrs.

ahh...i wondered when i saw that beautiful plume, but surely not much different than the setters, cockers, etc. i also like the look of spinone, but i think they may be a little large for us...it'll be a while at any rate, so we'll keep doing our homework! thanks!

I've seen a number of Blue Picardies in Canada and in France (actually in the Picardy region). There are some really nice ones out there. The good ones run relatively wide and fast, have a good nose, they like water and are really nice dogs to be around.

Interest in the breed has been growing steadily in France over the last couple of decades, so much so that there are now more Blue Picardies whelped each year than Picardies (which are brown/white/tan). The increase in the numbers whelped has not been without a certain downside though: despite the fact that there are now twice as many blues as there are Picardies the number of blues in field trials and tests has actually declined. This tends to support the argument that the breed is becoming more and more show oriented.

There are still good ones out there, but as with all breeds nowadays: buyer beware.

Edit: I forgot to mention that this weekend (ish) I will be posting some photos of a really nice young Blue that I photographed in France this spring....stay tuned!
