Can anyone tell me the main difference(s) between an English cocker spaniel and a Boykin Spaniel?

There are several differences between the two breeds. I guess a main one would be that English Cocker were originally bred to flush small game out in front of foot hunters, while Boykins were originally bred to be small dogs that could fit in boats with hunter to retrieve ducks. Boykins are also really known for being great dove retrievers. So, I guess the biggest difference is that cockers are true flushers while Boykins are true retrievers. There are also immense differences in coat, temperment, availability, price, size, etc. Grab an issue of GunDog magazine and look through the breeder ads in the back. That is probably the best place to look for field-bred English Cockers. As for Boykins, check out the kennel list on this website. Talk to lots of people who own either breed to find out which is best for your needs.
