1. Pointer
2. & 3. Diluted versions

Things to consider:

age to first point - Pointer
age to consistent pointing - Pointer
strong intense points, etc. - Pointer

Nothing else is close.

Ross you may want to rethink that,, this pup was 9 weeks at the time. He made a cast of 300 yards and when I got there this is what I found. But don`t feel bad, the V has been in business a few hundred years longer than the rest of them. :D

My German Longhaired Pointer is just about 7 months old now, and I have been very impressed with her pointing instinct thus far. I got her from Courtney and Scott. She demonstrated a strong pointing instinct on sight pointing (wing on string) at 9 weeks and with planted pigeons at three months old. She hunted a lot of wild birds this fall/winter and was really handling them well by the end of the season despite all the snow we had in Iowa this winter. She also started backing naturally and is really good at holding point as she rarely bumped any birds. Not too bad for a 5 to 6 month old dog. I am not saying the GLP deserves to make the top three, but she definitely points as well as the shorthair and French Brittany that I had. I hope she points this well on her NA test this spring. She is also a real joy in the house as she is very calm, but flips the switch and has a nice search in the field.
