QC vets ban cosmetic surgery

Postby spinster » Sun Feb 07, 2016 7:35 am

Quebec's Order of Veterinarians have banned cosmetic surgery in pets...means they will no longer dock tails. This leaves Alberta and Ontario as the hold outs, and it is likely just a matter of time before the practice will be banned across Canada.

Agreed, never had a pup complain an hour after it was done but have had lots of friends with long tails that had them on the sideline with infections.

I've seen setters and Labradors with their tails wrapped and bloody from hunting brush.

My pointer suffered some degree of tail tip injury every season, and by the end of each season every member of my cousin's beagle pack is packing a bloody tail tip. The two pups he bought this fall from MS had the last third of their tails docked off. They will fare much better because of it.

Does that mean that they can not be docked by someone other than a Vet?

We have always done our own. Dew claws too. The new pup from Germany still has dew claws and her breeders are both vets trained at UC Davis.

I'll just continue to do things my way. FYI there is a recurring movement/proposed legislation outlawing e-collars.

My Great grandfather said the well meaning have done more damage than any other group. I think he was right.
