Nail separated from quick

Postby Deuce » Mon Mar 14, 2016 7:05 pm

My grouse season ended when my 4 y/o busted a nail on a front paw. It's been almost two months, it looked like it was growing in fine until I took her for a run this weekend. Now I can see there is a clear delineation between the quick and the nail. Both are hard and don't move, but it looks like any number of things could get lodged in there.

Anything I can do at home to fix this or is a trip to the vet in order?

If it's solid it's probably fine. If it's detached and unstable in any way Grab it with pliers and yank it off. Be ready for it to bleed for 10 minutes.
