Walk by's, sleeping or just out of the blue

Mates first field trip Final.jpg
Hello and HELP PLEASE,

We have a pup that is 4 months old now and we love him to death but he seem's to be having a problem with peeing. We feed and water and we take him out we see him playing with the other dogs and when he takes a break we take him out, we take him out after he sleep's etc. etc.

Mate will piss when he is just walking by, sometimes he does go over to the door but usually you can't get to it fast enough because he just lets go with it, at times he gives no warning and you look and he has just pissed on the floor. One day he was laying beside my chair and I was petting him and all of a sudden I feel something wet on him and he had laid there and pissed.

The other day he went over and laid down on his nice dog bed and started chewing on a toy of his and I just hap;pened to notice his tail up in the air and I went over there and he had just pissed all over it while laying there.

We have taken him to the vet and he said he had a bladder infection so he gave us some pills to give to him and we did and there is really no change.

Have any of you ever ran in to this before and what was the solution?

He is not heavy and seems to have good energy etc.

One last thing, he does not crap in the house and never has, I caught him one time just getting ready to and got him outside just in time and that is the only time. He will hold it forever it seems like and he does go to the door and he will bark if he doesn't think we see him and he needs to go. Urinating is a whole different ball game.

One other little tid bit is that he does not raise his leg to pee but i just figured that is his young age and no he is not fixed yet.

Thank You for any feedback it is much appreciated

I've always had females so might not be of much help. I'd leave him in the back yard more than in the house so he can establish a routine and a favorite bush to relieve himself on. I'd also add some dried cranberries to his diet to eliminate bladder distress.

Do not get him neutered without a specific health related problem to do so.

He is 16 weeks. He still needs to go out every 3 hours, after every meal, nap, and the instant he stops playing. If you can't get to the door fast enough, you weren't paying close enough attention.

A dog is not house trained until he goes 2 months without an accident. If he's not potty trained, he should be kenneled or have a designated family member in charge of racing to the door every time he stops what he is doing. After pottying outside, you should still be praising heavily at the moment he finishes so he learns to go outside is what you want.

Take him to the vet, make sure he doesn't have a urinary tract infection, but most people get tired of training about now and stop putting in the due diligence.

Thank you for your replies they are very appreciated.

We feed and water and we take him out we see him playing with the other dogs and when he takes a break we take him out, we take him out after he sleep's etc. etc.

The etc. etc. covers everything that was mentioned in your post. In my original post I mentioned that we have had him to the vet and he did have some crystals that showed he might have a slight urinary tract infection and we gave him the pills over ten days and not much has changed.

We are patient and the fact that he has to get from point A to point B and it might take a little while does not bother us but I can assure you that when I say Walk By's it is exactly that, He just go's and there is nothing that we missed. We are not perfect but have owned other dogs in the past and house broke them and this is different or I wouldn't ask for any help.

We do have a Kennel in the house and it is the right size for him right now but almost every time we take him out he will have gone in there, sometimes a lot and some times just a little spot and at times not at all.

Again, thank you for your input we do appreciate it.

Crystals rarely mean anything in dogs, and a urinary tract infection should respond almost immediately to antibiotics.

Go back to the vet and let them know the medications did not help. There is a rare condition where the ureters do not attach in the correct part of the bladder (ectopic ureter) and he should be checked for that. It may require a referral to a specialist.
