Griffon skin sores, please help!

Postby rosstucker » Tue Jul 14, 2015 2:43 pm

Hey Y'all - I have been MIA for a couple years after 3 moves and 2 kids...and I know this is bad form for my resurfacing, but I am in need of a little help.

My 6yo Griffon broke out in some kind of crazy skin disorder. Our vet is completely baffled and we are awaiting lab results. Has anyone seen anything like this? Vet said sores are due to "significant necrosis", but under the microscope he didn't think there was enough bacteria present for it to be bacterial in origin. He has not been in contact with any caustic or hazardous materials, no change in diet, excorcise &c. He is generally contained in fenced yard or in house, and I have not had him out running off leash in the last couple weeks - so no real opportunity to get bit by a u identified varmin. Anybody have any ideas? I like our new vet, we but are new to town so I am looking for a little outside advice.

Ziggy is a little off in terms of behavior, but not much. Eating and drinking as normal. Thanks for any advice!

Ross

I didn't know there was such a thing as a veterinary dermatologist. Lucky for Zig we live in Fort Collins and CSU has a couple. Thank you!

You are welcome, I've not seen such severe sores outside of burn wounds or necrosis secondary to house fire. Let us know what they find out!

Any type of topical flea/tick preventative applied recently?

He doesn't sleep under the truck.

Lab results were inconclusive, though some staph was present. Specialist on Monday.

The sores are starting to scab more and are not growing anymore, so that is a positive sign.
