Corn on the cob

Postby redfish » Sat Jun 27, 2015 10:18 pm

Tonight after dinner, the pup snuck one of the corn cobs out of the trash and ate it. When I found him, it was in lots of tiny chunks (what was left). So it looks like he chewed it up. Any concern here, or should I just keep an eye on him and make sure it's passing. He is about 50 pounds.

Corn cobs are essentially indegestible so if any vomiting or loss of appettite occur you will need some x-rays to rule out obstruction. Hopefully pup chewed it well and everything is fine but if they swallow a piece intact it can be an issue.

Ok, thanks. He ate fine this morning, but we'll definitely keep an eye on him.

Somewhat off topic, but I just taught my pup to eat corn off of the cob last night.

She doesn't snatch food or treats, just nibbles, so I experimented and held an ear for her and she nibbled it off right down the rows.

And you'll find the kernels 24 hours later in the dog's poop.
