Dog PH

Postby mbulg » Sun May 31, 2015 7:43 am

My two year old intact male is a compulsive marker and over-marker. It is destructive to landscaping (not all that big of a deal to me). 8)

I was told a vitamin C tablet once a week would minimize the damage to plants and bushes. However, I am concerned it may have unintended health consequences.

There isn’t much information on dogs and PH, but apparently it is breaking news that Kelly Ripa’s Alkaline diet changed her life.

Dilution is the solution to pollution.

It's the ammonia and nitrates that are killing your landscape, not the pH. Most dogs have pretty neutral urine pH.

I recommend soaking your dogs dinner in water, making him eat soup instead of kibble. This will (if enough water is fed to dilute the urine) spread out the nutrients so the nitrates don't burn your landscaping.

Might try an electric fence. Every farm kid has done it one time only on a double/triple dog dare.

I finally went to females. No more shrub damage and mama is happy. Now I just have to patch spots in the yard every spring. :D
