Cant close mouth

Postby Georgia Boy » Mon Sep 30, 2013 4:59 pm

Just got a call from a friend that went out to find a 4 year old male dog that cant close his mouth. He was fine yesterday but today his mouth is half open and he can only close it a little. You can take your hands and close it for him so its not like lock jaw but more like some kind of paralysis. He is acting fine, happy and tail wagging. He took him to the vet who checked him out and has no answer. His vet is checking with some other vets but said he has never seen anything like this in 30 years.

I'd get him tested for masticatory muscle myositis. It's not a typical presentation, but worth testing for.
