WPG and Navhda Testing vis a vis KLocus dilemma .

Postby Birddogs » Thu Dec 15, 2016 3:22 pm

Having read the AWPGA stance on KLocus and eradicating
this problem from breeding lines .The CKC ,Canadian Kennel
Club apparently have no knowledge of this issue in Griffons .

Having no knowledge of and choosing to ignore, are two different things. The key word here is "issue." If they don't see it as an issue, they don't have to deal with it. I think it would be a real challenge to discuss the "issue" with those who don't see it but you'd have to choose your words very carefully in order to pin them down.

Here in the US it was taken pretty seriously by most and dogs were tested who had known/suspected carriers in their pedigrees. It hasn't been discussed here in a long time so I would imagine it has become a non-issue as a result of the diligence in the beginning. I know of only one breeder here who didn't give a hoot and turned out a bunch of carriers.....or worse.

I don't know of any restriction for testing in NAVHDA other than the dog be registered with an approved registry. Anything listed on a dogs test score is strictly for informational purposes. Teeth, coat, testes, etc are evaluated and let those who use that information do what they will. DNA is only required for the invite and is just a profile to identify the dog and not to identify genetic issues.
