( 17Weeks 0 Days) 32.5 Lbs Rosie's last week was spent doing what was basically more of the same. We did manage to get a decent start on remotely launched marks. The experience was satisfactory with some pretty good marking skills being demonstrated. We are also transitioning from box type launchers to wingers with good results. Focus downrange is coming around but we still need to be careful with the remote marks to make sure she sees them. We did start using 22 cal. dummy launchers for a few water marks. Obedience skills that were pretty good are quickly becoming very well obeyed. Our heeling drills are now possible and we plan on continuing with that in the next week or so. As mentioned some time back we are going to start using the gun for marks. Until now the gun has been just something that happens with the big dogs. Rosie is almost ready for the gun. Last weekend Rosie again attended a hunt test. The event was at West Mississippi HRC. Rusty passed 2 finished tests and Rosie entered her first puppy event. She was steady for the mark and responded well to the release command. She delivered to hand and released the bird on command. All in all she did a fine job even if it was just puppy work. We are now at 17 weeks of age. By 20 weeks we should have a pretty reliable retriever on single marks. We will have good response to whistle and will be thinking about introducing multiple marks. Handling skills will follow closely behind that. Weight gain is again leveling off. Again, things are mostly just more of the same at the moment. Look for much more fun to start at about 21 week.
