I have had springers for most of my life and have known them to be extremely even tempered excellent with children and very protective of them. - Vitti Family I have a 3.5 year old Springer and he is the best dog I've ever owned (aside from my last springer, Buster). He is great in the field and retreived a spec goose this year. He still is picking up most birds by their heads but never harms them. In my opinion, if you're an upland game hunter, an English Springer Spaniel is the best choice in dog breeds. They are tireless in the field. They have great focus and learn very easily.
